Sunshine Coast to share in $14 million for a more inclusive Australia for all people with disabilities

Announcement @ 12.30pm Thursday 24th August 2017

Reverse Inclusion Workshops 11am – 1pm

USC Sport Stadium

Suncoast Spinners will announce success with a major funding round for a Reverse Inclusion Program funded by the NDIS through the Information, Linkages and Capacity Building (ILC) – ILC National Readiness Grants.

”Nineteen of the 39 funded initiatives, are national or cover multiple States and Territories,      with an additional eight in both Victoria and New South Wales, three in South Australia and one in Queensland.”

The project will involve reverse inclusion workshops led by Australian wheelchair basketball athletes, wheelchair basketball coaches and managed by USC researcher and Paralympic wheelchair basketball dual medallist, Bridie Kean.

“The project aims to increase inclusion in sport through wheelchair basketball. People with physical disabilities are often excluded from participating in team sports, whereas in our reverse inclusion workshops everyone plays basketball in a wheelchair, the wheelchair is simply a piece of sporting equipment to play the game”

Bridie Kean will announce details of funding and Reverse Inclusion program at 12.30pm following Wheelchair Basketball workshops to celebrate Diversity Week at the USC sports stadium Thursday the 24th August 2017.

Following the announcement is an Interschool wheelchair Program 1-2pm, being delivered by the Reverse Inclusion Team and Suncoast Spinners.

Reverse Inclusion Project Managers and Workshop Leaders will be available for interview.
